Habakkuk 2:1
“I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts. I will look to see what he will say to me”
Prophetic Intercession is about stationing ourselves to watch and hear the Fathers Heart.
We then release His Word upon the earth for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. We partner with God to bring Heaven onto Earth
It is not praying to God but praying with God.
It is about being like the disciple John – laying our head upon Jesus’ chest and feeling His heart beat.
We let go of our agendas and take time to hear the desires and thoughts of the Father’s heart.
We may be praying for a situation about which we have little natural knowledge but we are praying what is in the heart of the Father.
Habakkuk 2:2-3
“Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time, it speaks of the end and will not prove false”
A herald is one who is sent with authority from a king.
Before we had such things as media – a herald was very important. He was a messenger, carrier and proclaimer of important news.
Heralds would declare with authority what was happening or what was to come.
They spoke what the ruler wanted to be said- not what they thought should be said.
A herald would carry a scepter in their hand as a sign that they had the right to decree as a sent one from the King.
Their knowledge of the details would be immense as they had heard directly from the King.
We are also SENT ONES… carrying the scepter of Heaven…hearing directly from the King.
We are Heralds of the King of Kings
1 John 2:6
“This is how we know we are in Him: whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did.”
So how did Jesus live?
John 5:30 “I only say what I hear my Father saying”
John 5:19 “I only do what I see my Father doing’’
And “in this world we are like Him” 1 John 4:17
The Holy Spirit is our helper.
Romans 8:26 “The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what to pray for but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered”
John 16:13-15 Jesus says “However when He the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will tell you of things to come. He will glorify me, for He will take of what is mine and declare it to you.”
What a promise!
The Holy Spirit can speak to us in various ways.
He can speak through the scriptures, through songs, a still small voice, impressions/ pictures in the mind, visions, dreams, Words, numbers and symbols.
As Prophetic intercessors we are going to need to stand at our watch and see beyond the natural spheres into the Heavenly realms.
Here we receive accurate direction and strategy.
This will require a life consistently connected with heaven...consistent communion with the Spirit.
As we cultivate a life of intimacy, more revelation will come as the Father shares His secrets with us.
When we pray, we are not praying with information but with revelation.
We prophesy according to our faith… so lets build good faith muscles through the Word of God and praying in the Spirit.
Job 22:22 “Lay up His Words in your heart.”
Study and meditate on:
- the logos Word (that which God has said) – the written unconditional Word of God. The Holy Spirit brings truth and releases wisdom through this.
- the rhema Word (that which God is saying)- the revealed, Kairos (Now Word) Word of God. The rhema word establishes God’s purposes on the earth
When we hear His Voice, pray His Voice and act on His voice – we will get results immediately.
Prophetic intercession is about having absolute dependence upon God for everything – don’t base today or tomorrow’s strategy on yesterdays instruction.
Isaiah 55:9 God’s Ways are higher than ours…
therefore we must seek Him out…we need to seek out His ways.
An example of this is with David in 2 Samuel 5:17-25
David didn’t take for granted that what would cause him to win in one battle would also work for another.
He returned to God for strategy each time.
To be victorious in intercession we must do the same.
To be used in Prophetic Intercession, one really wants to keep ones heart pure and clean.
Romans 6:23 “The wages of sin is death” – this is death in all areas of our lives … our bodies, families and ministries – physical and spiritual death.
Song of Songs 2:15 says to catch the little foxes that ruin the vineyards- our vineyards that are in bloom.
Live a holy and set apart life and walk in repentance… regularly checking our hearts for the little foxes.
A watchman’s greatest gift to the body is the ability to SEE.
Matthew 6:23 “ If your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.”
If the eyes of the prophets are unhealthy, then the body of Christ will be in darkness.
If we have blurred vision it creates problems not only for us but the whole body.
Guard your “eyesight”
Matthew 16:19
“I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you bind on earth, will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven”
This verse does not mean that we should be binding demons and satan himself …rather the Greek Word for bind and loose is deo and luo, which means to forbid and to permit… here the translation from Greek would sound a bit like: whatever you loose (permit) on earth shall having been loosed (permitted) in heaven.
It means that their decision will be in line with what already was God’s mind on the issue.
Note it also says “whatever” and not “whoever”…so it is not aimed at demons and satan himself.
We have been given authority to bind and loose by decreeing the Word of God, which is alive and active and sharper than a two edged sword.
We never need to beg God in our intercession.
We simply stand at our watch and listen and wait for His Word and then we release His Word upon the earth as a declaration.
Our declarations are made with divine insight into situations and their outcomes. When we have His Word we do not need to beg but rather make the decree on what will happen based on what we see and hear prophetically.
Matthew 10:27 “What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight, what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.”
We need to herald the revelations.
Jesus never prayed for people who had troubled circumstances, rather He decreed and declared the purposes of God.
When Jesus came to Lazarus who had been dead for some days, He didn’t beg for the Father to wake Lazarus… He proclaimed and demanded in a loud voice “Lazarus come out!”
When we understand our authority in Christ and all the possibilities it provides, we will manifest Kingdom realities in the earthly realm.
– Luke 17:6 “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, move from here to there”
Luke 10:19 We have been given all authority over the enemy.
“I saw satan falling like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy.”
Prophetic Intercession may include prophetic actions that the Holy Spirit lays on our hearts.. Examples of these may be clapping, shouting, dancing, walking, marching or flags.
Some examples of prophetic action taken in the bible include Joshua with the walls of Jericho. The strategy he had (or rather was given) seemed absurd but God enabled them to match the perfect resonance of the wall.
King Joash was another example of prophetic action when he was instructed by Elisha to strike the ground with arrows.
Gideon is another famous example of using prophetic action as part of God’s strategy to bring victory!
Let us be those who, like the wise virgins, keep our lamps full of oil waiting and watching for the Bridegroom’s return. Let us be awake and watchful and not fall asleep. Let us be His heralds ready to declare His Word to the earth.
If you would like to learn more and actually practice prophetic intercession…why not join one of our morning calls and be mentored in a group setting on how to hear God’s voice for the nations.
